Something wonderful happened today. Something that NEVER happens. I did not get on my computer or phone (for the use of the internet/Facebook/Twitter) for almost the entire day. I unplugged!
I would have gone the whole day, but I got sucked in to the (wonderful) black hole that is Pinterest while I was meal-planning for the week, a healthy and wise choice, AND to write this short post.
Have you ever gone a day "unplugged"? And if so, did you do it with purpose or simply because you were not in cell tower/WiFi range? I have to believe that it is good for our brains to, once in a while, unplug from our modern technology and not only enjoy the world around us, but also give our eyes and brains a break from the super-pack of stimuli that is most technological devices.
If you follow me regularly, you know I'm a big advocate of "refreshing the soul" and, appropriately, my soul definitely felt refreshed today. It was a little hard to not check my phone to see if a client had emailed or if one of my friends had posted on my Facebook wall, but I purposefully decided to clear my schedule of any devices and spend a beautiful and productive day with my husband and puppy.
Balance is key on any given day in our lives. There will be some days when we feel like we can easily "unplug" and some days when that would feel like the end of the world. Either way, success comes in deliberately deciding what your priorities are for each day. If you need clarification around priorities and finding ways to help you "unplug" from technology, bad habits, dismal careers, etc, life coaching can help. Send me an email and I would be happy to chat!
I want to hear about your experiences with unplugging. Is it a ritual for you? Or something you could never fathom. Did you unplug this weekend at all? Comments welcome below!!
