The definition of hangry (unofficially) is being in a state of such hunger that you are actually angry.
Now you know what I'm talking about! We've all been there.
Today I wrote this great post for you all. I spent 30 minutes on it and was so excited to share it. When I hit "publish' on my computer, a message popped up: "you need to clear your cookies". What? I knew what this meant, but I decided to ignore it and refresh the page. Poof. Blank page. All of my hard work was gone. After refreshing several more times and saying some choice words, I actually screamed out loud. Yes, I was upset that all of my hard work was gone, but I knew that lying beneath my sadness was an extreme hunger.
I immediately went to the refrigerator and ate some fruit. Ah, that felt better. Don't get me wrong: as I write this post I'm still a little sad about the post that you won't be reading today, but I think that everything happens for a reason, so perhaps most of you are hangry right now?
If so, try to be mindful about what you grab to eat and make sure it nourishes your soul and doesn't toxify it.
How can we prevent hangry-ness?
1) Recognize what your point of hangry-ness is so that you will know it immediately the next time it happens.
2) Eat throughout the day, especially if you are experiencing a tough transition or an abnormal period in your life (like vacation, an illness, a stressful project at work, relationship hardships, etc)
3) Have an accountability partner who can point out when you might be hangry. Mine is my husband. He knows the difference between me being upset and me being hangry. Boy does he! Having a partner keeps you in check and can help you clarify what is really irratating you.
4) Listen to your body: do you have a headache? Stomachache? Do you think your blood sugar is low? Our bodies can really cue us in to what is actually going on in our minds.
